MEET THE DENTISTS

Dr. Jocelyn Mendez is a Marquette University School of Dentistry Graduate. She has also trained at Denver General Hospital where she joined the Head and Neck Trauma Team along side the ENT, Plastic Surgery and Oral Maxillofacial residents. In 1998, Dr. Mendez opened her first private practice in Canovanas, Puerto Rico where she practiced Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. After relocating to South Florida in 2004; she has served as a hands on clinical instructor for the Florida Board Dental Prep Course. She enjoys all aspects of General, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Dentistry. On her free time she loves running marathons and triathlons. Dr. Jocelyn Mendez resides in Coconut Grove with husband Rafael, one year old son Gabriel and 5 year old Golden Retriever Jake. In the Grove and in the South Florida Triathlete community she is commonly known as Dr. Jocy. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Dr. Mendez is a member of the American Dental Association, South Florida Dental Association and the Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Sandra Carvalho specializes in Prosthodontics. Prosthodontics is the dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth. She has over 15 years of experience. Born in Medellin, Colombia, Dr Carvalho earned her dental degree at the prestigious Health Science Institutte of Medellin and in 1998 completed a Post graduate program in Public Health Management from Universidad EAFIT_CES.
After practicing for several years as a general and cosmetic Dentist in Colombia she relocated to South Florida and was accepted in Nova South Eastern University where she completed her specialty in Prosthodontics. She is an active member of Osseointegration and of the American College of Prosthodontics. On her free time, Dr. Carvalho practices cycling and rollerblading.

Dr. Maribel Carbia is a second generation Dentist. In 1997 she completed a Pre-Medical Science Bachelors degree at University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez. She then went on to earn a Doctor in Dental Surgery degree from the Iberoamerican University in Dominican Republic. From there she moved to her native Puerto Rico to complete and Advanced Standing Program from the University of Puerto Rico School of Dentistry. For several years she took part of research programs along side the eminent Dr. Yihong Li at the Dental Microbiology Department in New York University. She was selected to represent her class at the 40th annual American Students Dental Association Convention in Bethesda Maryland. She further her education by completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) from Nova Southeastern University. With plenty of educational and familiar background; Dr. Carbia enjoys all aspects of general dentistry including preventive, endondontics (root canal therapy) and restorative. On her spare time she enjoys running and is planning on completing her first triathlon this year.
